Did you know that, after a warm restful summer, it’s a great time to set new fitness goals for the final quarter of the year? Autumn resolutions, here we come!
In fact, starting a fitness routine in September can help boost your mood and energy levels before winter is in full swing! We know that exercise is a mood booster as it promotes growth of new neurons in the brain and triggers the release of endorphins and that sounds pretty good to me! To get a little more scientific, the end of summer and start of autumn is when we start to receive less sunlight and so there’s an actual change in our circadian rhythm. How does this affect us? It can shift our biological clock and we may feel more drowsy and less motivated, which could make it more challenging following through with our daily schedule. Great news though…exercise is an easy way to fight the winter blues!
How can you get started?
1. Set realistic goals – set smaller goals and progress as you achieve them, it will help you stay motivated
2. Find a workout buddy – working out with a friend makes exercise more fun and in addition adds accountability
3. Find new activities/ways to work out – try different equipment, classes or sports; decide if you prefer group activities or one-on-one sessions
4. Try Personal Training/participate in a machine orientation - have a trainer go over your body composition and become familiar with various machines and what fitness goals they can help you achieve
